PROJECT

Cadent

At the Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN), we are committed to addressing the inequalities affecting Black communities in the UK. Through our Resilient Informed Black Community programme, in partnership with Cadent, we have made significant progress in equipping individuals and families with vital information, resources, and support to tackle challenges related to carbon monoxide (CO) safety, energy efficiency, and household support.

Case Study 1: Mr Y – Finding Comfort and Stability

Mr Y, an immigrant with no recourse to public funds, faced significant challenges in keeping his home warm during the harsh winter months. With a young family to care for and no access to state support, he struggled to afford basic heating items, making his home uncomfortable and unsafe in the cold season.

Through the CAHN and Cadent project, Mr Y received vital support in the form of energy-efficient tips and thermal blankets. This assistance significantly improved his living conditions, providing him with a warm, safe environment for his family.

Mr Y shared, “Before the support, I would keep my children bundled up all day just to keep warm. I didn’t realise how much of a difference having proper heating could make. Now, we’re all comfortable, and I can focus on looking after my family instead of worrying about the cold.”
