CAHN Bereavement Support is a service for people who have been affected by the loss of a loved one during COVID-19. The service is delivered in a professional manner by qualified professionals from the Caribbean and African community. It is tailored to meet the cultural and religious needs of the Caribbean and African community living in Greater Manchester. Learn more
The Black Health Improvement Programme (BHIP) is a culturally appropriate education, training and support package designed for primary care staff and other healthcare professionals.
This grants programme is funded by the Comic Relief Global Majority Fund with additional contributions from Salford CVS, One Manchester, and Trafford Housing Trust and administered on behalf of Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN) by Macc.
The objective of the funding programme is to increase the wellbeing of communities of African and Caribbean people in Greater Manchester.
The total amount of funding is £290,000.
Cardiovascular related diseases such as heart disease and stroke are 40% higher in Salford than the National average. Despite a reduction in cardiovascular related diseases for majority indigenous groups, Caribbean and African people are twice more likely to suffer higher rates of morbidity and mortality from CVD. National and local research provides evidence that one of the most disadvantaged groups across the country include citizens from a vulnerable and socially deprived background for example, women who are Black, Asian and from Minority Ethnic groups (BAME), young people, people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities, people with mental health issues, dementia, diabetes and other health related long term conditions. CAHN health hours have been delivered every Saturday since May 2020 and reached thousands of people on Zoom, facebook and YouTube. Our programme developed in response to the ‘Stay at home’ directive where CAHN could no longer go into churches and community spaces to reach our communities with health education and screening activities. The Family Support Service aims to improve the lives of African and Caribbean children, young people and their families. It provides culturally sensitive and targeted support for vulnerable African and Caribbean families who disproportionately face a range of complex issues and challenges. Learn more
This project stems from community engagement feedback and provides a forum for Caribbean and African people living in Wigan so that they can come together and build community resilience while making valuable contributions to local decision-making. Learn more
